52.3% of Mexico's population lives below the poverty line. Around 20 million youth live in poverty, 4 million live in extreme poverty. Many of those in poverty also suffer from hunger: "According to the 2008 findings of Mexico's National Evaluation Council on Social Development (CONEVAL), nearly 49 million Mexicans—over 46 percent of the country's population—suffered from some form of food insecurity at the time of research."
