Public schooling is provided by the federal government. Mandatory school age is of 6 to 14 years. Preschool and kindergarten are not required. As of 2000, only 46.68% of youth aged 15-19 attended school. The amount of Mexicans who have completed up through middle school is rising. However, the average Mexican attends only 8 years of school.
